Continues international knowledge transfer with centres of excellence in Singapore and London
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 12 April, 2010: The DIFC Courts, the Dubai International Financial Centre’s (DIFC) independent, common law judicial system today announced the expansion of its resident team through the appointment of a new judicial officer, Shamlan Abdulrahman Al-Sawalehi.
The strengthening of the team reflects the Courts’ focus on continuing to provide users with a fair, efficient and accessible service based on global best practice.
Al-Sawalehi, already an experienced lawyer, will receive 12 months’ training in common law and judicial skills, including precedent research, judgement and order writing and shadowing judges in the UAE and elsewhere. Training will include case studies, role playing, applied research, and one to one workshops, and will continue following the initial 12 months with an ongoing development programme.
As part of his induction, Al-Sawalehi will join Justices Al Madhani and Al Muhairi in continuing the Courts’ ongoing liaison with international and regional centres of excellence, in Singapore and London as well as in Dubai Courts, an initiative that has played a significant role in the development of the DIFC Courts. It is planned that Al-Sawalehi will attend regional judicial symposiums and seminars in Judicial Studies. It is also planned that he will take part in an attachment programme at the London Commercial Court and Employment Tribunal.
Al Sawalehi has more than 12 years of legal experience in the UAE judicial system as a former Dubai Public Prosecutor, general advocate and legal consultant practitioner before the UAE courts as well having a good understanding of DIFC legal framework as a former DFSA enforcement manager.
A Bachelor of Sharia’a and Law, Al-Sawalehi also holds a Diploma in Advanced Legal and Judicial Studies from Dubai, and a Masters in International Commercial Law from the UK.

We are delighted to have him join us in the capacity of Judicial Officer, as he will help support the DIFC Courts’ continuous efforts to provide efficient, transparent, accessible justice.”
Commenting on the training and induction programme the DIFC Courts provide, H.E. Justice Omar Al Muhairi said, “The DIFC Courts’ have been committed to providing judicial services based on global best-practices, and the training a new judicial officer receives reflects this commitment. The DIFC Courts provide its judges and registry teams with a great deal of regular training both locally, in-house and overseas. Mr. Al-Sawalehi will benefit from the same level of commitment to his development. Indeed the judicial team attended in-house training from Judge Graham Jones, a UK High Court Senior Circuit Judge with over three decades of experience on the bench on case management on 6 April.”
