Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 17th March 2009: The DIFC Courts, the Dubai International Financial Centre’s (DIFC) independent, common-law judicial system, has announced the implementation of two new services, an online case management system and an urgent case application facility, to further improve the case hearing capabilities of the Courts.
The new on-line case management system, interCOMM, will support the Courts’ back-office administration activities, streamlining scheduling, electronic records and document management. The interCOMM programme, developed by Visionhall Information Systems, is widely considered the leading method of paperless court management and, by adopting this technology, the DIFC Courts brings itself in line with other world class courts systems. Future upgrades planned will allow remote access case management, enabling court users to issue and progress claims through a secure internet connection.
Mark Beer, Registrar at DIFC Courts said: “The implementation of the new case management technology is another example of DIFC Courts offering a world-class, accessible, efficient and transparent justice system. Along with the best-in-class, international judicial experience of the Courts’ judges, DIFC Courts now operates with one of the most advanced and reliable, back-office case management technologies.”
Urgent case handling facility
The DIFC Courts also announced the creation of an urgent case handling facility. This provides companies in the DIFC with access to justice at any time. Urgent applications can now be made via an urgent hearing with a Courts’ Registrar and/or Judge, requested over a 24-hour phone line.
“The DIFC is a hub for international business, which operates around the clock, seven days a week. To support this business and its global stake-holders’ requirements, the Courts need to be able to deal with urgent matters as they arise” said Mr. Beer.
