September 10, 2013 Registrar Directions
IN THE DUBAI INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL CENTRE COURTS
REGISTRAR’S DIRECTION NO. 3 OF 2013
Attendance of Counsel by Video or Telephone Conference
Citation
This Practice Direction will come into effect on the date of signature. It may be cited as Registrar’s Direction 3 of 2013 – Attendance of Counsel by Video or Telephone Conference and may be abbreviated to RD 3/2013.
It is a general principle that for all hearings before the DIFC Courts the advocate for each party should appear in the DIFC Courts’ courtroom (or for hearings in chambers, in those chambers). This includes situations in which the judge takes part in the hearing by video or telephone conference.
However, there may be exceptional situations in which an advocate is unable to appear due to the urgency of the matter, or the estimated costs of his appearance in person before the Court are wholly disproportionate to the matters to be addressed in the hearing. In such circumstances that advocate may, by application on notice under RDC Part 23.76, request permission from the Registrar to participate in a hearing by video or telephone conference.
